Some Local History
Andover was first organized in 1857 under the name “Round Lake Township.”
Andover was established as a city in 1974.
A local myth is that the city was named after a train derailment where the train sank into a swamp by going over and over. However, myth busters
agrees that this is only a myth! The name Andover has been found in historical records before any train tracks were ever present.
